Two show jumpers are on the shortlist to become the Reem Acra Best Athlete at the FEI Awards. Those riders are Jeroen Dubbeldam from the Netherlands who became World Champion with Zenith SFN and German champion and World Cup winner Daniel Deusser. Deusser, who works for Stephex in Belgium, won the World Cup in Lyon with the beautiful Cornet d’Amour but just didn’t made it to the Final Four in Caen. Dubbeldam moved from place 12 to 4 ont he final day and was the only rider without penalties at the Final Four. The other nominees are Joanne Eccles (vaulting) and Boyd Exell (driving).
I was very pleased to read the news because those two riders are riders I admire because of their style, personality and expertise. They are both always smiling, very open to journalists, they fight at the arena, they stand out when they have to and they talk about their horses like a real pro should. Here you can read what the FEI press release has to say about these champs:
Daniel Deusser: Starting off his year with a win in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final, Daniel proved this was a sign of things to come. With a 6th place finish in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian™ Games 2014 and currently holding a place in the top 10 of the Longines Rankings was certainly a year to remember.
Jeroen Dubbeldam: With an impressive track record at top level games and championships, 2014 proved no exception for Jeroen who followed up his individual Olympic and team gold at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian™ Games 2014. Since Normandy, he has gone on to help the Netherlands clinch the top spot at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final.
